We are all familiar with that most frustrating unattended washer or dryer saga. Someone starts the washer and then runs out to do an errand. Sometimes keeping a 30-minute washer tied up for hours.
Remember that leaving your machine unattended is not only rude but also unwise. It’s rude because people may be waiting for your machine so that they can do their laundry. And it’s unwise because if you aren’t there to keep an eye on it, your laundry may grow legs and walk away.
Instead, try these waiting ideas that will allow you to keep a close eye on your washer and dryer.
Plan Ahead Waiting
We know for a fact that laundry day happens every week, and the average load of wash takes half an hour, and the drying an additional 20 minutes for a whopping 50 minutes of waiting time.
So, while you wait for that first load to finish, come prepared with a wide variety of things that you can do from inside the laundromat.
- Pre-order your groceries while you wait. Schedule the pickup time after your laundry is done. Now you’ve saved yourself even more time by getting two weekly chores done at once.
- Read a favorite book or two. Maybe on a new hobby or from your favorite book club.
- Write thank you cards.
- Clean out your email box, and unsubscribe to emails you never, ever open.
- Call a friend.
- Learn how to knit.
- Pay some bills, and set up auto pay to save even more time.
- Watch a how-to video for a weekend project.
- Order pizza delivered right to the laundromat and schedule it for when your laundry will be done. Walk out the door with clean laundry to a ready-made dinner.
- Learn some new laundry-folding tricks. There are great ones on YouTube, but stay focused or you’ll get lost in mindless video scrolling.
So go ahead and have fun while you wait and get loads of stuff done all the while keeping your laundry safely within view.
